I recently attended a webinar presented by Professor John Rizvi, Esq., on Intellectual Property: Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law. Professor Rizvi was a very informative and motivational presenter. He brought the world of inventions, patents, trademarks, and copyrights down to size. As an individual with a Ph.D. who works in higher education, the culture is predominately (not always) predicated on institutions of higher education receiving the rights to the instructor's hard work. To illustrate, when an instructor earns a patent for an idea or an invention this ties them to the university; the instructor will often receive additional compensation and a tenured position. If the instructor leaves the institution, their patent remains with the university. Mr. Rizvi's experience in both higher education and law informs his practice and he uses his knowledge to help individuals like me.
